Are Automatic Negative Thoughts Ruining Your Life?

Do you often predict the worst, talk down to yourself, and take a pessimistic outlook on life?⁣

⁣You need to understand that you cannot believe every negative thought that goes through that 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘺 𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴. We tend to believe our thoughts whether they are true or not — simply because that beautiful 𝘯𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘣𝘪𝘢𝘴 wired in and the fact that we never check ourselves to examine if our thoughts are rational, logical, or true. ⁣

⁣We tend to believe all sorts of shit that goes through our minds without examination. It isn’t 𝗮𝗹𝗹 your fault though, as we are conditioned from a young age to never question things, and avoid critical thought. ⁣

⁣Unless you want to be a slave to your negative predictions — and continue the cycle of self-sabotage via your self-fulfilling prophecies — then you must get control of your automatic negative thoughts (𝗔𝗡𝗧𝘀).⁣

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗡𝗧𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿:⁣

  • All or nothing thinking — Black and white thinking; everything is good or bad.⁣
  • Absolute or “𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴” thinking — Overgeneralizing; using words like never, always, every time, or everyone.⁣
  • Focusing on the negatives — Seeing only negatives in situations that have positives.⁣
  • Thinking with your feelings — Relying on how you feel to make decisions rather than staying objective.⁣
  • Guilt beating — Using guilt to control our behavior; using words like should, must, have to, and ought to.⁣
  • Labeling — Calling yourself or someone else names.⁣

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲 “𝗿𝗲𝗱” 𝗔𝗡𝗧𝘀:⁣

  • Fortune telling — Predicting the worse when you have no way to know what will really happen.⁣
  • Mind reading — Making assumptions about what others think when they haven’t told you.⁣
  • Blame — Blaming others for your problems and making excuses.⁣
