⁣Many people eating a mostly whole-foods diet get adequate potassium, but not sodium.⁣

⁣𝘏𝘜𝘎𝘌 𝘔𝘐𝘚𝘛𝘈𝘒𝘌!⁣

⁣You should be making an effort to salt your food and get about 1–2 tsp of salt (sodium chloride) per day because sodium is important for:⁣

  • Nerve and muscle function⁣
  • Nutrient absorption⁣
  • Stomach acid production (chloride)⁣
  • Insulin sensitivity⁣
  • Fluid balance⁣

Sodium also interacts with our immune and hormonal systems to balance histamine and help reduce allergies, as well as balance catecholamines and reduce cortisol and support thyroid function.⁣

⁣So, if you are eating a mostly whole-foods diet, and want to optimize health, please add some salt! ⁣

⁣𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬… If you are sweating excessively obviously 1-2 tsp won’t be sufficient and you need to factor in individual variables. There will never be a blanket recommendation that will be applicable for all humans.
